Myths and Reality Building

In this video, I discuss some of the ideas from a recent paper: Boxing myths and reality building in sport.

I try to highlight how some of the theories might feel a bit complex, but really the analysis is pretty simple. I touch on the methodological weaknesses of the research design we employed and argue that we turned it into something of a strength.

The paper can help you understand how myths might become real. It also has some important methodological ideas embedded in it. Undergraduate students (and some academic staff) might find it useful as means to help them think more critically about their own beliefs about sport. Plus, how that might affect what they see as evidence.

Please drop me a message here or on Twitter if you’d like to ask any questions. If you have comments about the paper, I’d like to hear them.
