Immersion in male dominated spaces with Dr. Emma Poulton

Emma is an Associate Professor at Durham University. She’s published widely on areas of social science including national identity, racism, media representations of football fan culture and hooliganism.

Emma and I have spent time immersed in similar research spaces but we’ve had to use very different skills and ideas in order to gain access to them. Emma discusses how her knowledge and love of football provided her with useful tools to be able to gain acceptance from the men who dominate these spaces.

Listen out for Emma’s interesting points on some of the tensions that came from her placing in the field.

As Geoff Pearson’s work was mentioned, you can also listen to a talk between Geoff and I.

And, you can listen to my thoughts on immersive research too.
