What questions should I ask in my interviews?

I don’t think of interviews as a research method. Instead, they should be considered as part of a coherent methodological strategy which unfolds over time.

If you know me and my work, you won’t be surprised to hear this is related to an immersive research design where I encourage people to get to know their participants. With this, we can avoid ‘snapshot’ methods that tend to oversimplify life. We can then lean into the opportunities that come with teaming up interviews with repeated observations and chats.

In this video, I suggest you consider interviewing as a cyclical process which involves foreshadowing problems, empirical details and sensitising concepts. This is a nonlinear process that builds on multiple moments of data collection and thinking about your personal/research relationships.
