Academic reading: Part one

In this video I discuss the type of deep or ‘proper’ reading which is necessary to develop academic thinking. I discuss how such reading is the basis for good academic writing and outline how challenging and draining it can be when done properly.

I set out six different levels of reading as a means of outlining the difference between ‘reading’ and what I expect of students when I talk about ‘academic reading’. I then link this to the importance of re-reading and note-taking.

This is the first of three videos which explore this topic. I suggest listening to them all in order to get the jist of my thinking.
