Answering questions in your Viva

Answering questions about your work can be hard but it’s an important part of academia.

In this video, I talk about how my PhD students are encouraged to think about answering questions they might get in their Viva, or in other ‘pressured’ scenarios, such as at a conference or during a paper review.

There’s nothing complicated or clever here. Applying this basic framework to the process of thinking about an answer will help you be more sure of the approach to take.

If you can remember my 3+1 framework, you’ll be able to use it in any situation you find yourself in. And if you ever see me answer a question, you can be sure I’ll use some version of this approach.

And if you find this useful, there’s much more support and advice in the member area for just £2 per month!
