What makes a bad supervisor?

This video is a follow-up to What makes a good supervisor?

I wanted to highlight some of the structural and personal problems that might come together and result in someone being a ‘bad’ supervisor. We firstly have to consider what ‘bad’ actually means in this context. Then we have to consider the situation in which this is all happening.

All too often people get fixated on the ‘bad apples’ who stand out by causing their students to have really bad experiences. And of course, we have to try to stop this from happening, but such cases are the minority. What interests me is the more run-of-the-mill stuff that we could all be doing better on our path to becoming good supervisors.

And if you find this useful, there’s much more support and advice in the member area!
